Health risks from non-potable use of recycled water in buildings. Part 1 – Rainwater

This paper responds to a quickly growing trend of rainwater use in buildings and draws attention to related health risks and legislative gaps in its regulation. The key pathogens that may occur in rainwater in the Czech Republic are described, as well as, chemical contaminants from roofs and collection surfaces. The main ways of non-potable use of rainwater in buildings are also listed including the related exposure pathways of infections and technical measures available for reduction of the health risks.

In the article we offer an overview of the influence of folate and folic acid on the aetiology of selected diseases, as well as the current state of food fortification in Slovakia and countries with the largest share of fortified food production. Folate and its synthesized form of folic acid are an important component of a healthy, balanced diet. Folate plays an important role in cell metabolism, DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. Measuring nutrition literacy should be an important tool to improve nutrition literacy and subsequently dietary behaviour at the population level, but also to identify individuals with limited nutrition literacy with the potential to define personalised interventions. In addition, a nutrition literacy assessment tool may allow standardisation of scientific outcomes of population-based nutritional behaviour intervention programmes. Very low nicotine cigarettes: will they really lower the risk?

When smoking cigarettes, smoke and combustion products are especially harmful to health. Surprisingly, towards the end of 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved very low nicotine filtered cigarettes as a Modified Risk Tobacco Product. Will the risk of developing and maintaining addiction or health risk be reduced?

After Canada was the first country in the world to introduce pictorial warnings on cigarette packs, they now discuss a proposal to place a warning on each individual cigarette as well.
