Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the optimization of radiation protection related to work with open positron sources on the newly opened PET/CT department in the Clinic of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital Ostrava (KNM FNO). Methods: We compared retrospectively the values from the personal dosimetry of employees, who participated on the PET/CT examinations over the time period from January 2014 to April 2018. Aim: The health status of laboratory animals affects their suitability for research, therefore it is important that each facility with laboratory animals has its own program of animal quality control. The source of the infection, however, may not only be the laboratory animals, but also on infiltration agent from the outside environment. In the framework of the animal biosecurity concept, microbiological monitoring of the environment is carried out in many foreign animal facilities. The aim of our work was to evaluate how the above-mentioned microbiological monitoring of animal environment may contribute to the Animal Health Quality Control Program....

Šimon Veleba
Hygiena 2019, 64(3):131-134 | DOI: 10.21101/hygiena.a1722
Presented is the problem of noise reduction from the operation of rail brakes at the regional freight railway station in Havlíčkův Brod. According to the state health supervision, the hygienic limits of noise have been exceeded in the protected outdoor area of buildings at night. A major source of noise in the operation of rail brakes was the sound caused by the clamping of the wheels, giving rise to intense whistling. The operator has designed and implemented effective noise prevention measures, such as the installation of passive and active anti-noise measures. The implementation of these measures reduced noise from the use of rail brakes by more...

One hundred years of modern cremation in the Czech Republic
František Kožíšek
Hygiena 2019, 64(3):128-129 | DOI: 10.21101/hygiena.a1726
The article reminds of the prohibition of cremation in Christian Europe and the struggle for the reintroduction of cremation at the turn of the 20th century. In the Czech lands, the prohibition of cremation was in force until 1919 when, on the initiative of J. Kvapil, a playwright and also a then deputy, one of the shortest acts ever was passed which allowed cremation. In the same year, the Liberec crematorium was the first to be put into operation in the Czech Republic. This year, it is exactly one hundred years since the reintroduction of cremation in the Czech Republic, which now accounts for around 80% of the annual total of funerals in this country.
