Options of applying GIS in practice by public health authorities

The competence of regional public health authorities is still quite extensive even today, very often in practice there is work with the space around us, its use, various factors and their effect. Within a wide range of inspections and assessments, we obtain data that relates to different locations and spaces. And just for the purpose of working with spatial data and analyzing that data, or the monitoring of different relationships in a given space or finding out the cause of the examined problem, it is appropriate to use the so-called geographic information systems (hereinafter referred to as "GIS"). GIS experience differs across regional public health authorities across the Czech Republic. There is direct support for working with GIS in regulations regulating the activities of regional public health authorities is not and therefore it may be problematic for them to create their own map outputs. The solution is currently cooperation with other institutions that have the necessary software and know-how. However, this paper reflects on whether there is a potential for working with GIS directly at regional public health authorities and what are the possibilities of its use.
