The author's team from the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic presents an overview of the preventive role of selected nutritional factors and foods in antisclerotic nutrition. Attention is also drawn to the nutrition risk components involved in the initiation of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. The results of 2 dietary tests in subjects with primary combined hyperlipoproteinemia are presented. In the first test were administered PUFA n-3 in the amount of 2.0 g/day 3 times in a week (in the form of mackerel in the amount of 150 g/day). Therein a total of 37 subjects (average age 39.3 years) underwent testing after 42 days. Significant reductions in triacylglycerolemia, decrease in cholesterolemia and elevation of HDL-cholesterol were demonstrated. Another 4 week dietary test with apple pectin in a daily dose of 20 g and vitamin C in the amount of 300 mg administered to 27 subjects (average age 46.5 years) with primary combined hyperlipoproteinemia was realised. A significant hypolipidemic effect has been confirmed: reduction of cholesterolemia, stable level of HDL-cholesterol, and decrease of triacylglyrolemia and LDL-cholesterol. There was determined an increased cholesterol waste and its coprostanol derivative in the stool, which corresponds to the binding of pectin and cholesterol in the intestine. Presented is also a significant piece of knowledge about the regular consumption of milk and milk products in the prevention of the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.
