Infection Prevention and Control Programme

Health care associated infections represent a risk that affects morbidity, mortality and total cost of health-care across the world. The results of the European Point Prevalence Study, focused on health-care associated infections and the use of antimicrobials and organized by the ECDC in 2011-2012, reveal the severity of this problem troughout the EU member states. The introduction of the a functional infection prevention and control programme in health care facilities is a fundamental prerequisite for a rational approach to the issue of health-care associated infection.
