Change in Road Surface Noise in the Czech Republic Monitored by CPX Method

With regard to different trends in noise of various road surfaces over time (not only surfaces with reduced noise), long-term monitoring of gradual changes in noise of individual road surfaces is necessary. Relevant acoustic data related to road surfaces in the Czech Republic, albeit scarce, are in demand and sought for by ministries, road administrators, health supervisors, regional public health stations, Public Defender of Rights, etc. These data are used to select correct road pavement types or surface treatment. The article describes results of measurements performed by the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic No. TA01030459 - Change of Road Surface Noisiness during Several Year Usage project and partial findings from project TA04021486 - Tools for Analysis and Assessment of Environmental Impacts of Road Surface Noise. The article compares levels of acoustic pressure A measured on the tyre/road interface for variously old road surfaces used in the Czech Republic. The obtained field measurement results confirm that individual surfaces degrade over time in terms of acoustics (their noise increases), and this dependency is based on the type of the road wearing course.
