Health and Behaviour Part I - Lifestyle and Disease

Chronic non-communicable diseases with the complete determinants are serious health problems in developed countries. Lifestyle factors are important in prevention and treatment of disease. Lifestyle is characterized by patterns of behaviour and plays a comprehensive role in both mental and physical health and the quality of life. Behavioural, environmental, psychological and genetic elements form the lifestyle, are interactive and can modify the hereditary risk of complex diseases influencing genetic expression. These findings correspond to the bio-psycho-social concept of health and illness and highlight the importance of health-related behaviour and its change.
