Tumours are the second most frequent cause of death in the Czech Republic. Obesity is given in connection with some tumours and represents important preventable cause of tumour deaths in the population. The aim of the study was to determine association between the most frequent types of tumours and obesity. The article shows outcomes of two cases and control studies. The first revealed OR of colorectal carcinoma among men as 1.88 (95% CI 1.50-2.37) and among women 1.53 (95% CI 1.21-1.93). Kidney carcinoma among men had OR of 1.65 (95% CI 1.07-2.51). A statistically significant association between obesity and endometrial carcinoma was found in women when OR was 2.28 (95% CI 1.40-3.71) and ovarian carcinoma with OR 1.60 (95% CI 1.10-2.32). The second study also found positive association between obesity and carcinoma of the kidney. Results for colorectal carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma and carcinoma of kidney were significant even after adjustment to other factors.
