The National Institute of Public Health in Prague, Czech Republic, was established after the World War I on the conviction of the political representatives of a new Czechoslovak state and medicial experts, that the Republic needed a modern institution which would effectively contribute to the issue of communicable diseases and apply new approches to public health and social medicine. An important factor was the good will of the Rockefeller Foundation in co-financing the foundation of the institute both materially and in terms of concept. The Institute was inaugurated on the 5th November 1925.
